  2. * INSTALLING X.500 *

  5. This section explains how to install the X.500 software.
  6.  
  7. This demonstration assumes that all hardware requirements are
  8. met and that the required software has been successfully installed.
  9.  
  10. This demonstration also assumes that HP X.500 has not been installed on
  11. your system.
  12.  
  13.  
  14. PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS
  15. ====================
  16.  
  17. Before you can install the X.500 software, you should have
  18. the following hardware and software:
  19.  
  20. Hardware:
  21.  
  22.  *  HP 9000 Series 800
  23.  *  8 MB (or more) of memory
  24.  *  20 MB of disk space (about 12 MB are required to load the filesets)
  25.  *  Tape drive for updates and system backups
  26.  *  802.3 (LAN) card or X.25 card
  27.  
  28. Software:
  29.  
  30.  *  HP-UX Operating System 9.0 or later
  31.  *  OSI Transport Services/9000 version C.04.00
  32.  *  LAN or X.25
  33.  *  Network tracing and logging
  34.  
  35.  
  36. HOW TO INSTALL X.500
  37. ====================
  38.  
  39. To install X.500, do the following:
  40.  
  41.  1.     Log in as root
  42.  
  43.  2.     Move the /etc/net/osi/ots/OTSuserconf file if it exists
  44.  
  45.  3.     Type "/etc/update"
  46.  
  47.         a.  Select "Change Source or Destination" to alter
  48.             source to the appropriate device or file and press
  49.             the [Enter] key.  Follow the instructions.
  50.  
  51.         b.  Select "Load Everything from Source Media" to
  52.             install all partitions required by X.500 and press
  53.             the [Enter] key.  Follow the instructions.
  54.  
  55.  4.     When the update program completes, check the
  56.         /tmp/update.log file for any errors
  57.  
  58.  5.     Type "cd /usr/lib/x500"
  59.  
  60.  6.     Type "./x5install"
  61.  
  62.  7.     After x5install completes, type "x5verify -icv" to
  63.         verify the installation
  64.  
  65.         The version numbers should be A.00.00 or greater.
  66.  
  67.  8.     Log in as user x500 and type "x5otsinit"
  68.  
  69. You have successfully installed the HP X.500 Distributed
  70. Directory software.
